About
A crate-digging tool that respects the booth and the network
Crateseek is a small, independent web app for DJs and music makers. It exists because the hours between hearing a track and playing it out were being spent in the wrong places.
What it is
You type a song name or paste a Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, SoundCloud, Tidal or Bandcamp link. Crateseek resolves which recording you mean, searches the Soulseek network for the highest-quality copy — FLAC first, then 320 kbps — verifies that it is the right recording, and saves it to a cloud library with BPM, key, genre, loudness and a waveform already worked out. You build sets, and export them to a USB stick with the files, playlists and crates that Serato, rekordbox, CDJs and Engine OS expect.
Why it exists
The old workflow is a desktop Soulseek client left running on a laptop, a folder of downloads with inconsistent names, a tagging pass, an analysis pass in DJ software, and a USB export that fails on the one player you didn’t test. Each step is fine; the sum is a weekend. Crateseek collapses it into one place that does each step properly and hands you a stick at the end.
How we think about it
- Lossless first, honestly labelled. FLAC when the network has it, 320 when it doesn't, and the format visible on every track.
- Verify, don't guess. Duration and title checks on every candidate, and an AcoustID fingerprint where one exists.
- Give back to the network. One shared, content-addressed copy of each file, and the node shares everything back on Soulseek. We don't leech.
- No lock-in. Everything exports — sets or the whole library — with tags in the files, so the stick works without us.
- Fast pages, few scripts. The product is a tool, not a feed. Analytics are cookieless and we don't sell data.
What it isn’t
Crateseek is not a store, a streaming service or a licence to download anything. It is a tool for organising music you have the right to use. We are not affiliated with Soulseek, Spotify, AlphaTheta/Pioneer DJ, Serato or Denon DJ; their names are their trademarks and appear here to describe compatibility.
Early access
Crateseek is free while in early access and there are no paid plans yet. Some edges are visible: the Spotify connection is limited to a small number of invited users by Spotify’s developer rules, and export to Engine DJ’s own database is not there yet (Engine OS players read the folders instead). If something is wrong, say so — email is read by the people who build it.
